Background
Astra Agro Lestari, PT (the company) was established under its original name of Suryaraya Cakrawala on Oct 3 th, 1988 then changed to PT Astra Agro Lestari based on Notaries Deed dated June 23, 1997 and the deed of establishment was approved by the the Ministry of Justice dated July 2, 1997. The company was located at Jakarta. Plantation and plants was located at South Kalimantan and North Sumatera province. The subsidiaries company was located at Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Java. As of December 31, 1999 the company & its subsidiaries' plantation cover a total area of 290.621 Ha (including for Plasma project and KKPA of 45.896 Ha), with a total planted area in the amount of 199.780 Ha (including for Plasma Project and KKPA 41.327 Ha).

Yield ImprovementAstra Agro Lestari had a total planted area of 199780 ha which 92.5% (184.831 Ha) were oil palm plantation (7.071 ha constitute palm tree of less than one year old, 50.378 ha belonged to the 2 to 3 year category, 60.307 ha were in the 4 to 5 year, 38.974 in the 10 to 14 year range, while the remaining 5.139 ha comprise palm trees older than 15 years). The remaining 7.5% is divided among rubber, tea & cocoa plantation with 8.854 ha, 3.213 ha and 2882 ha, respectively. Milling Capacity As year-end 1999, AALI operated 14 on site mills in several of its oil palm estates in Sumatra, sulawesi and Kalimantan with a total aggregate per hour capacity of 527 tons. In addition, AALI operated five processing facilities for rubber with a total capacity of 28.2 tons of latex per day, and six processing facilities each for cocoa and tea with total daily capacities of 18.6 tons and 103.5 tons, respectively.Quality Control and AssuranceThe company has two laboratories at head office.
